The objective of the Resilience and Innovation Northants (RAIN) project is to build flood resilience in two river catchments in Northants. The project is innovative because it has work packages that focus on multiple and integrated approaches – natural flood management, community resilience, property flood resilience and building a flood risk model – in the same two areas.
The project runs from 2022 to 2027, is funded by Environment Agency/Defra and is run by West Northants Council.
My role on the RAIN project is Lead evaluator, working with colleagues at Resources for Change. The evaluation has three main phases:
- Baseline phase: A baseline population household survey (June 2023) and review with the team at West Northants Council. The baseline report was published in January 2024.
- Interim phase: An interim population household survey, a face-to-face reflective evaluation workshop with the WNC team and most of the RAIN partners, and follow-up interviews as required. The interim report is due in spring 2025.
- Final phase: A repeat of the interim phase, with a final report due in 2027.
